Tomo & Edie

Tomo & Edie has some of the cutest and unique items for babies!
I am just in love with their Organic Cotton Baby Kimonos and the Vintage Japanese Kimono Hair Accessories. Tomo & Edie are friends who share a passion for other cultures, educating the children, doing their share to preserve the environment and promoting a peaceful existence. Their children, Tomo and Edie, inspire them daily to have fun and be nice.
The logo is Chikyujin Tomo&Edie -- chikyujin (pronounced chee-Q-jeen) is a Japanese word they like to translate as "world member." Literally translated, the character chikyu is "earth" and jin is the character for "man."
Their children, Tomo and Edie, remind them daily that we all are "world members" so we must do our part to promote peace, protect our environment, educate our children, and be nice. Check out their blog here.
Tomo&Edie hair accessories are hand-crafted from vintage Japanese silk kimono and are shaped as "ume" or Japanese plum blossoms. Plum blossoms are a favorite motif in Japan representing early springtime.

Kimono is the traditional dress of Japan, still worn today on special occasions. The making of a kimono is extremely labor-intensive. Only the finest silk is chosen to be carefully hand dyed and embroidered.
Then, the fabric is sewn so that no seams are visible. It can take several weeks to sew one kimono, and it's not unusual for the price of a special kimono to exceed ten thousand dollars.
In Japan, kimonos are carefully stored and handed down from generation to generation. When a kimono no longer is worn, they take it apart with loving care, trying to imagine who made it and who wore it. Then they give it new life as a hair accessory.
Be sure to check out Mommies United where you will be able to win a Kimono and Hair accessories.
